Product Description:
Tie Guan Yin, meaning "Iron Goddess of Mercy," is one of China's most legendary oolong teas, originating from Anxi County in Fujian Province over 300 years ago. Named after the Buddhist goddess of mercy, Guan Yin, this tea is steeped in folklore — with one popular legend telling of a poor farmer who was gifted a special tea bush by the goddess herself in a dream, in return for his devotion to keeping her shrine clean.

Traditionally, Tie Guan Yin undergoes a meticulous process of withering, bruising, partial oxidation, and repeated rolling and roasting, which develops its distinctive tightly-rolled, dark green pellet shape and complex flavour. Modern Tie Guan Yin ranges from lightly oxidised, fresh, and floral styles to more traditional, heavily roasted versions with deeper, toastier notes — Brewesty's selection focuses on a balanced, classic style that showcases the tea's signature floral complexity.

At Brewesty, we source genuine Tie Guan Yin from Anxi, offering an authentic taste of one of the world's most celebrated and historically significant oolong teas.

Tasting Notes:
Tie Guan Yin delivers a rich, floral aroma with notes of orchid and a subtle mineral quality, balanced by a smooth, slightly creamy body. The flavour is complex and layered — floral sweetness up front, giving way to a deeper, more roasted warmth, with a long, lingering finish known in Chinese tea culture as "yun" (韵), or resonance. Each steep reveals a slightly different side of the tea as the tightly rolled leaves slowly unfurl.

Why People Love It:
  • One of the most iconic and historically significant oolongs in Chinese tea culture
  • Complex, evolving flavour — floral, smooth, and subtly roasted all at once
  • Excellent for multiple infusions, offering great value and a changing experience with each steep
  • Naturally caffeinated, smooth enough to enjoy without milk or sugar
  • A must-try for anyone building a genuine appreciation of Chinese oolong tea
